Hot! Dry! Below Sea Level! Lowest Spot on
North America!
Death
Valley is a land of extremes.
It is one of the hottest places on the surface
of the Earth with summer temperatures averaging well over 100 degrees
Fahrenheit.
Wind is the artist. It moves the sand along
the valley floor sometimes exposing intricately weathered rock and at
the same time building gently curving dunes that cover large areas. For
the past several thousand years this natural erosive force has done much
to give the valley its present shape.
At 282 feet below the level of the sea, it
is the driest place in North America with an average rainfall of only
1.96 inches a year.
